12:28 pm - Avatar in 3D was really just as enjoyable the 2nd time, even if I can *never* forgive "Unobtainium"

I would like to announce that this comic is now autobiographical.

I have an awesome, amazing girlfriend, and I *will* be posting more on this. (For now, to work. Yay, work! Full time work with benefits... gawd I love my life.)

11:22 pm - JOB. STARTS. MONDAY.
Today, I feel like an adult.

Yes, there is a total of $1 in my savings, but I have a month-long bus pass, and I will be making money starting on Monday. I had decisions to make, and I made them. I am tired, but find myself pleased because I know that everything has a way of working out, and for the present moment, I do have everything worked out.

I have student loans- quite a few of them. And I know that I will have more than enough to start paying them down by the deadline, because of my job.

I have obligations to fulfill at my volunteer job. And I am dutifully making sure that my last few cases get taken care of.

I chose a schedule that I will do well with and purposely gave myself only 30 hours a week. I know that this will help keep me sane (and give me a chance to try the other job).

I have, like NO cash. My parents will pay for food, and the bus pass will take care of transportation. By the time it runs out, I will have more than enough.

I owe my parents for the phone still. And I will be able to start paying them back very soon.

I still have difficulty being responsible all the time, no exceptions. And I´m working on that, and improving at a rate that is both acceptable and something I am allowed to be proud of.

I feel as though I have passed the test, and am beginning my life as a real adult for the first time.

12:40 pm - My 2nd Interview...
...Has unfortunately been postponed for NEXT Thursday.

Naginata, however, is going well! I am learning the "tsuki" strike to the throat (so far without a partner, as the movement should be very controlled before it is used on a human target). My goal? Sho-dan (First degree black belt) at the March tournament.

And here's a meme I got from justmissjac"Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you."

She gave me Naginata, Points, The Voice, DDR, and SpanishCollapse )

3:16 pm - Interviews vs. Swine Flu
So I probably don't have Swine Flu, which is disappointing; if I'm going to be sick, at least I should have something I can brag about, right? Alas, I appear to have a normal cold.

But at least I got sick at a time when I don't have to miss work. So I am camping out at home, lots of fluids, soup, rest, eating healthy, vitamin C, all that good stuff.

On Thursday I had two interviews!

The first one, with Head Start went well, but I don't think they will hire me. If they do, all the better, but I guess I'll just wait and see.

The second one, with Free and Clear (Quit Smoking program), went REALLY well. They already scheduled me for the second interview next Thursday, and they basically think I sound perfect for the job. They even have a 30 hour option, which might allow me more time to keep working with NWIRP (Immigrant Rights - unpaid internship).

NWIRP is also going well. I have interviewed a few clients, and a few more are coming in next Monday and Tuesday. The people there are all impressed by my work, and I'm doing good things for good people. I hope I get to stay with them at least a little.

Anyways, the AWESOMENESS of the prospect of Paid Employment far outweighs the suckiness of a sore throat, so I am pretty happy.

current mood: pleased

10:18 pm - Because I don't only post when I'm depressed
So... the family's doing well. Both of them.

Thank god.

On to happier things!!!

So for Labor Day I went shopping ^_^ and bought a CINNABON of loveliness with my good friend Caitlin. Then we went mallcrawling and didn't really buy anything but had a blast. I got an awesome khaki skirt with beads, which I can wear to work, and also some makeup (I had a $50 Sephora gift card and hadn't bought makeup since Spring of freshman year... that is, freshman year in highschool. Yeaaaaah..... >.>)

So that was good. We also went to the Made In Washington store and tried gourmet local candies (45 cents each!) and had their free Pike Place Market Tea, as well as getting lunch at World Wrapps (which I highly recommend).

So that was my big splurgey Labor Day! :D

Upcoming excitement includes.... September 10th! Interview with Head Start of Snohomish County to be an in-house interpreter and translator! (This would be awesome because it's job-by-job, so it gives me free time for....)

...my INTERNSHIP with the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, where I will be volunteering and doing INTAKE for Spanish-speaking clients, gathering details about their immigration cases to discuss with our lawyers (so we can get back to them about A if they have a case, and B if we will represent them)

Sometime Next Week, AppleOne (agency which recruited me) has promised that Free and Clear (company they recruited me for) will contact me, as they Want To Interview Me for the position of bilingual quit coach (tobacco cessation coach- the program uses goal-based cognitive behavioral therapy to help employees of various companies who have this resource as a benefit quit smoking.)

And Lastly! On September the 25th, I have my DSHS (Department of Social and Health Services) Written Portion of the Social Services Interpreter Test!!!!

Wish me luck, guys!

I am also taking an online (heh-heh-heh) C++ class for game developers, and passed the first quiz with 100%. Yay me.

3:17 pm - When I breathe in... I breathe in peace... when I breathe out... I breathe out love...

So I just deleted what was going to be an EXTREMELY rambly upset-post and put it into a word document for posterity. It was six pages >.>

I'm relaxed now, and I think I can probably process it better that way.

family stuff, mostly my dadCollapse )

On a positive note (hehehe) I donated blood today! I am, indeed, O+ (snerk), which means I can donate to 80.5% of Americans. So I was happy that my iron was high enough for me to successfully donate today. 10/10 is my next donor date, so I'd better bulk up on iron for then!

I also voted (yay!) in my local election. And I would like to share my favorite candidate with all of you:

Goodspaceguy! (Website located at http://colonizespace.blogspot.com)

Here is a closeup of Goodspaceguy's personal statement, in which he "Requests that you think of yourself as crew members of Spaceship Earth":

<3 I can give you some more background on this guy if you want. Enjoy!

10:09 pm - Snake? Snaaaaaaaaaaaaaake!
Let it be known that I am at the very end of Metal Gear Solid (The First).

Rex is uh, tough. I've pretty much got the first half of the battle down (personal best- only got hit twice), but the second half is giving me difficulties- I've managed to figure out a swooping-in-and-put pattern to keep me from getting hit, but it's rather hard to do that and still hit Metal Gear (Metal Gear!), so... will keep trying!

Job searching is being draining, and I am getting progressively better at shamelessly networking, but... eh.

I may have an interview later this week.

If you are in the Stargate SG-1 fandom may I recommend an excellent gen fic:

Compromised, by MerryKK

It's about 62 (medium) chapters long, updates frequently, explores "what if Sam and Jolinar successfully escaped to the Tok'ra?" EXTREMELY thoroughly, and leads all of the characters on a series of separate, intertwined adventures that parallel the adventures of the series, but with this AU.

If anybody has any ideas for excellent things I could be reading, feel free to recommend! Books or fanfics accepted. ;-)

ALSO IF YOU KNOW OF A JOB, or somebody who needs math tutoring, or who needs something translated, PLEASE let me know.

Also: Holy Hannah, I miss you guys.

4:50 pm - Playlist Is Playlist!
bluestalking inspired me. I made my own playlist for bubblejet_'s game, and though I desperately wanted to repeat several of the songs bluestalking used, I decided not to.

Sorry if my perceptions of anybody's characters seem strange!

Here is the list! It's eclectic, so there will hopefully be SOMEthing you like: Sendspace Download!

12:20 am - Una oportunidad para desahogarme un poco.
Ohman, I really should have researched and finished this shit just slightly earlier than oh, say... tonight. Er.

That said, I am much pleased to finally be partially into The Paper, writing-wise.

I should have this first draft completed by soon, also known as tomorrow, by which I mean tonight would be nice. Anyways.

The stepdad and the many health issues: Improvement!Collapse )

Naginata Testing, and I-kyu! Also, I will miss my kohai and my sempai KatieCollapse )

Apart from that, I will miss fricking everybody. My seniors, my firsties, my team, my Bellagades, the Wilder inhabitants, the Brigham crowd, the Pearsons dwellers, my fellow Buckland buddies, everybody who sat through that awful Renegades meeting with me, and friends from all four years who I see on campus now and again... I'm just really noticing how many people who I love and care about will no longer be people I see on a regular basis once I'm gone.

Also, professors. I will miss those folks too.

Still no word from the Nintendo reps. I'm wondering exactly how to phrase my next email: "So I contacted you two weeks ago and you said you would call back by the end of the day, and you evidently didn't. So, any news?"

I am, however, hopeful and optimistic about the future, even if it's by brute force.

12:32 am

The naginata tournament was fantastic! I have so many photos and videos. I have to admit, it was completely mentally and physically exhausting. I got no more than six hours of sleep on any night, and there was NO time for me to even look at my homework, but it was so worth it. I was just so focused on my training, and on the test, and the competitions, and everything.

I survived strike-out! I also beat one other competitor in individual joge-buri, two other teams in engi (with Shirley!), and took 4th place with Shirley in college engi!

In BOGU (armor), I competed in shiai (sparring) and managed to get TWO VALID POINTS in my matches - points which allowed my three - person - team from Mount Holyoke to win the GOLD MEDAL in team shiai!!!!!

Katie Roche also took second place in women's college shiai, and third in general women's shiai.

In other news... a friend just asked the biggest favor I've ever had asked of me. I thought about it very seriously, and... I am going to do everything I can to help my friend.

5:36 pm - Baby Got Hakama
Oh lawdz, it's back:

Hakamas FTW:

Oh my God, Sensei,
Look at her hasso!

It is sooooooo BAD!

Her lower hand's just like, out there; it's not even close.
She looks like one of those Canadian girls from Toronto, but...
Who understands those Canadian girls.

They only do it so bad because they don't have a proper sensei. I mean, what you DOING-gu?

It's her hasso; it's just so BAD.
She's just so... whack!

I wear big pants and I cannot lie,
You martial artists can't deny
that when a girl walks in with an obi at her waist
and a ki-ai in your face you get pwned!

Hope your block's enough,
because you'll notice these boobs are stuffed,
deep in the gi I'm wearing,
You're hooked and you can't stop staring.

Oh baby, now don't say no-ji;
let's shikake oji!
My sensei tried to warn you,
but my uchi-kaishi's going to pwn you,

Ooh, naginata of smooth wood,
You say you wanna get in my dojo?
Well kai-oi, kai-oi
'Cause you ain't (that rat-tail guy)/(no Canadian guy), boy...

I’ve seen their hasso,
Goin’ 'round like a lasso,
It’s SLOW, I just say NO,
I could hit you faster with my DO!

I’m tired of magazines
Sayin’ kendo is the thing
Ask the average sensei and you’ll see;
She got a long ishizuki.

So, ladies- Men!
Ladies, Men!
Have your uniforms got the bow? Hell, yeah!

Come on and knot it,
And tie it,
And WEAR those sexy pants; Baby got Hakama!
(Katie 'tude with the Kyoto sune...)

Baby got Hakama!
(Katie 'tude with the Kyoto sune...)

I like them wide, with pleats,
'cause when my team competes
I just can’t help myself, I’m acting like a dragonfly
Tearing up the taikai!
I want to get you in shiai
And men, double-up men, sune
I aint talkin’ ‘bout cosplay
Cause polyester’s so passé!

current mood: Unjustifiably gleeful
